Hey DT, thanks for reviewing beginners distros for us noobs.
If a beginner viewer likes this they will recommend it to their disillusioned Windows user friends and therefore spread the Linux love.

    4:38 “this windows emulation layer”
    applause-worthy trolling right there 👏

Also, I regularly use wine for playing random games I find on itch. But for office work, which I think was your point, WINE is just taking up space.

Man I hate Gnome. It’s like Linux for babies and normies. If you need this just go back to Windows. I’ve been using Linux over 20 years and Gnome has become everything that Linux was NOT about. Just look how bare and stripped of features the file manager is. And most all of Gnomes applications are the same. Devoid of features and customization. Plain. Vanilla, BORING.

I don’t know how you still think most Linux users don’t use Wine. There are tons of Linux users that play games. And if you play games that are not on Steam using Proton you need Wine to play those games. Either manually installing older games and games from places like GOG or using Lutris or other tools (for those who NEED a gui to feel comfy) but either way I’ll bet your there are thousands more than you think using Wine to play games. And Wine plays 100’s of games pretty flawlessly these days.

Zorin and Mint are both nice for beginners moving over form Windows. Zorin 17 has the advantage of being shipped with Wayland by default since it uses a heavily customized version of Gnome instead of Cinnamon. On Mint, Wayland is currently an “experimental” feature.

Dark mode is primarily intended for using your computer in dark environments, at night, etc. it’s not intended to be only a stylistic choice as you seem to think. Having a light background at night to burn your eyes after the computer wakes up is regarded (drop the g).

I do like Zorin OS. I daily drive it in my back up laptop. I had to fix an issue. Evolution email. It stopped syncing. I couldn’t get it to work. Some of the Zorin forums suggested deleting Evolution and using Thunderbird. I did. Problem solved.

I prefer a dar wallpaper with a dark theme. As I use a dark theme to dim the desktop I dont then want a light wallpaper to burn my eyes again. I understand your point regards contrast. But for me darkening my desktop is to stop it from blinding me especially in a darkened room.
